Justice Alhaji Momoh Jah Stevens has granted Randa Skeiky Le5 billion bail over an alleged theft of $500,000 from her former employer, Ali Abess. The indictment said between 25th August and 7th September 2018 at Bintumani Drive in Aberdeen, Skeiky allegedly stole that amount from Abess. She was charged with larceny in a dwelling house and larceny by servant contrary to Section 17 (a) of the Larceny Act of 1916 by the Sierra Leone Police. A week ago the matter was struck out by Justice Ansumana Ivan Sesay due to a defective indictment by the prosecution.

But after putting the necessary papers together, the case has now resurfaced before Justice Momoh Jah Stevens at the High Court in Freetown. This matter first started sometime in February 2020 before Magistrate Hannah Bonnie, where the accused was also granted bail. Prior to her bail at the High Court, state counsel J.B. Kamara opposed it on behalf of complainant Abess, saying the money in question is huge and bail should not be granted after the accused’s lawyer Pa Momoh Fofanah applied for bail.

Lawyer Fofanah told the judge the complainant regularly threatens his client outside the courtroom and canvassed the court for instructions on the threats. After hearing both counsels, Justice Stevens granted the accused Le5 billion bail with two sureties who must be property owners and residing in the Western Area.

He then adjourned the matter to 13th August 2020. MJB/13/08/2020
