44 students of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sierra Leone (ICASL) and 5 affiliates have on Friday 3rd March graduated as accounting technicians from the institute. The auspicious ceremony which brought together students, parents and other important dignitaries took place at the British Council hall. In her opening address the chairman of the occasion, Ms.Marjorie I. Hedd congratulated all 49 students for successfully going through the certificate programme offered by ICASL.She informed the gathering about the institute’s 21st anniversary celebration that will take place this year. The celebration will include a two-day Accountants ‘Conference with the theme “Wealth creation for growth in Sierra Leone”.
The ACCA Country manager for Ghana, Tifty Ofori congratulated the grandaunts for a successful completion of their studies in accountancy. She however, emphasized the importance of a graduation ceremony which she considers as a celebration of hard work and sleepless nights.Ms. Ofori urged the graduants to uphold the principles of the accounting profession. She thanked ICASL for its contribution towards producing professional accountants which signifies the growth of ACCA of which Sierra Leone is a member.
Guest speaker of the ceremony, Prof.Jonas Redwood-Sawyer, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, University of Sierra Leone congratulated the grandaunts for such a hard work to secure a certificate in accountancy in spite of all the economic challenges in the country. He urged them not to maintain high standards in practicing their profession.Prof.Redwood Sawyer further pointed out that the infusion of Information and Communication Technician in accountancy has contributed towards enhancing efficiency and effectiveness in the job of an accountant.
The ceremony was climaxed with a musical performance by the Ballantan Academy choir.
