In their efforts to ensure that everybody becomes versatile with the Bible in their local languages, Bible Society Sierra Leone (BSSL) is training 40 trainers for the work of Adult Educationists.
The training of participants from all over the country will last for three days at the conference hall of the Council of Churches (CCSL) in Freetown.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, BSSL Executive Director, Ruby Pearce said that their mandate is to spread the Word of God through the scriptures. Adding that their target is for people to get the education from the Bible and use it to change their lives.
Mrs. Pearce reiterated that the Bible which has been translated into different local languages are now used worldwide, adding that Sierra Leoneans should be proud of their languages.
She cautioned participants to make use of the training as it will be profitable to them in future.
Literacy and Media Consultant from Kenya United Bible Societies (UBS), Timothy Kamau said that Sierra Leone is in the forefront of putting premium on literacy as a key agenda.
He noted that the Institute of Sierra Leonean Languages shows that Sierra Leone is on the right path.
The consultant stated that one of the challenges of literacy is materials.
Sierra Leone Adult Education Association (SLADEA) Project Officer Samuel Macauley said that for the last 31 years, the role of SLADEA has been and will continue to be midwifing well focused organizations like the BSSL.
The society he said has been an effective and trust worthy member of SLADEA Freetown branch for the best part of the two decades.
