After series of planning and sensitization meetings with both local and international stakeholders on the implementation of the Comprehensive African Agricultural Development Programme in Sierra Leone, a two-day round table conference that will mark the signing of the Sierra Leone (CAADP ) Compact commences today at the Miatta conference hall in Freetown.
The Minister of Agriculture Forestry and Food Security, Dr Sam Sesay on Tuesday disclosed to the press that 300 international delegates are expected to participate in the two-day round table conference that will take place on the 17th and 18th September this year.
Representatives from the African Union Commission, ECOWAS, NEPAD, FARA, FAO and other international donor organizations will comprise the delegation.
The Minister revealed that both national and international stakeholders will sign a document to show their commitment to the CAADP process for the country to achieve a sustained economic growth and development through increased agricultural productivity.
The CAADP consultant, Prince Kamara disclosed to journalists that four key areas have been identified to promote sustainable agriculture in the country. The major areas identified are; commodity commercialization, agricultural infrastructural development, private sector promotion and sector coordination and management. He further disclosed that the entire CAADP process will require between 150 and 200 million US dollars for its implementation within five years.
