With the successful conduct of the Local Council election in the country, councilors in the Makeni City Council are expected to again, go to the polls today to elect from among them, a deputy, to the Mayor, Moses Sesay.
Reports in Makeni recently indicated that, three persons declared their intent for the position of deputy Mayor among them; Councilor Ishmael Bangura, Isatu Forna and Councilor Ibrahim Teddy Sesay, all of the Makeni City Council.
Speaking to Awoko recently in Makeni on why he thinks he is the right person for the position, Councilor Ishmael Bangura disclosed that, during his first term as a councilor, he served as chairperson in various council committees, including; works, Internal Affairs, and education.
Councilor Bangura said, coupled with the training he had got from institutions like Fatima in Makeni, he thinks he deserves to be voted for as deputy Mayor in the Makeni City Council. “I have got a lot of experience in the running of council, since I have served as a councilor for four years” Councilor Ishmael Bangura said boastfully.
He said, as a councilor, he must ensure the issue of good governance is well interpreted to the people. “We need to talk to people on the functions and responsibility of councils, and as such, there is need for an able assistant to the Mayor in my person”, he said.
Bangura said, he was re-elected into council due to his good work and as such, that should convince his colleague councilors that, with him as deputy Mayor, he could also perform efficiently and effectively.
As they shall be voting today at the City Council office, Bangura asked all to ensure, they do what is good for the general good of the country. He however pledged to work with anybody that wins, “even though I am certain of winning” he said.
