The scribe of the National Paralympics Committee (NPC), Alexander Thullah, has said there are currently 28 Paralympic sports sanctioned by the IPC: 22 summer and six winter sports. He said the two newest sports to be given Paralympic status are badminton and taekwondo, which will make their debuts at the Tokyo 2020 Games.
The newest winter sport is snowboard, which was first introduced at the Sochi 2014 Paralympic Winter Games. He also revealed that the Summer Paralympics, also known as the Games of the Paralympiad, is an international multi–sports event where athletes with physical disabilities compete.
This includes athletes with mobility disabilities, amputations, blindness, and cerebral palsy. The Paralympic Games are held every four years, organised by the International Paralympic Committee. Medals are awarded in each event, with gold medals for first place, silver for second and bronze for third, a tradition that the Olympic Games started in 1904.
According to Thullah, as a committee they are doing their best to have a team that will represent the country in the games that will create serious impact.
