Sierra Leone: 250 people have on Friday 30th April 2021, benefitted from evangelism health outreach organized by the Freetown Central Circuit at the Maroon Church on Siaka Stevens Street in Freetown.
Prior to the outreach, the Church distributed tickets to beneficiaries who are not necessarily members of the Circuit churches, but people living close by these churches in order to avoid congestion in the church premise.
Circuit Superintendent of Freetown Central Circuit, Arnold Archer Campbell, told Awoko Newspaper that the drugs were administered to the 250 beneficiaries after having gone through series of health checks at no cost. He revealed that the drugs were purchased from monies contributed by members of the church and Bellani Foundation through Dr. Coker.
He furthered that the beneficiaries include traders selling within the church community and people that are challenged in terms of finance. He said patients who are having serious medical conditions are referred to a medical doctor, but this time the patient will incur the medical bill all by his or herself.
He said beneficiaries/patients are given pain killers, vitamins, and other malaria treatment, as well as running HIV, blood sugar, eyesight and malaria tests.
May Johnson, a nurse practitioner, was making sure that everybody get tested and treated and ensure that they are directed to the different stations during the health outreach. She explained that beneficiaries do go through some form of registration, after which they will run the various tests, including HIV test which she said is optional and drugs are administered.
She said the nurses were in good number to attend all the patients. She added that they had a physiotherapist who screens people who had back pain. “We also have a counselor who provides counseling for people who had social issues.
Ibrahim Kargbo a beneficiary disclosed that he got himself checked at no cost, adding that drugs were also administered to him. He described the gesture as an act of God, noting that he could not have had that kind of opportunity elsewhere but in the house of God. SKS/02/05/2021
