The technical director of the cycling association, Percy Nicol, has revealed to Awoko Sports that 2007 was a success for the association.
He said the association was able to take part in international competitions within the sub-region which they were able to bring laurels home after winning several trophies.
He noted that the association was also able to organize over five local competitions, including trials to select cyclists for international assignments without the help of government.
Nicol mentioned that the association was able to achieve this success as both the cyclists and executive were working as a team over the past years to make this success a reality.
The technical director stated that with such cooperation from the executive and cyclists that discipline had taken a different dimension both locally and internationally.
He noted further that last year over five new cyclists were discovered and two of them were selected to be part of the association’s team which made it very competitive for the cyclists to be selected for international assignments.
Nicol also disclosed that the association would be having an important meeting tomorrow to map out new strategy for this year and to look at the calendar of events for the year and planning for the first local competition on Sunday from Aberdeen junction to Kent.
The national cycling captain Shadrack Williams said though they went through some constraints when representing the country in international competitions last year they were still able to achieve success as their focus was to put Sierra Leone on the map.
He said they were also able to achieve success as the president of the association, Winston DC Crowther, “is another motivating factor as he always comes to our rescue when we are in need of help.”
