Two Sierra Leonean female Cricketers, Linda Bull and AnnMarie Kamara yesterday, February 14, 2012 ended their three-day elite ICC-African Regional Academy training course in Johannesburg, South Africa.
The female cricketers who represented the country for the second time they joined other female cricketers from across the continent for the high level training which was specifically conducted for women cricketers.
The three-day programme aimed at enhancing the participants’ skills in the game and also to motivate them to participate in tournaments organized within the continent of Africa.
The Academy training programme was also aimed at encouraging member associations to encourage mass participation of women in the play of cricket in their countries.
In another development, the Sierra Leone Cricket Association (SLCA) in collaboration with a non-governmental organization: “Make It Happen” has awarded certificates to 100 cricketers; both male and female after completing a five-day cricket coaching clinic at the Kingtom Oval.
The Chief Executive Officer of ‘Make It Happen’, Michael Collins before handing over the certificates said he was happy to see the clinic end successfully and urged the players to make good use of the knowledge gained from the British coach, Mark Aspin.
The SLCA President, Beresford Bournes-Coker thanked Collins and his organization for their assistance to the association, adding that they are looking forward to more capacity building programmes.
Apart from the awarding of certificates, trophies were also given to the best improved player, bowler, batman, fielder and host of others. The 100 cricketers who underwent the training comprise 75 junior players, 23 senior players and two females.
