The Project Director for Sports Aid Development Programme Alpha Koker said the $27,000 given to the Sierra Leone government from the Australian sports outreach Programme for Volleyball Association will benefit 19 Local Council and 49 Chiefdoms. He also mentioned that Sports Council is going to work in collaboration with the associations to make sure that the implementation of the project is achieved He made this disclosure during the official launching of the project at the National Stadium Volleyball court.
Alpha further stated that the sports Aid development plan is a 4 year Development Programme (2010-2014) that will be achieved in 4 phases. He stated that the first phase will start this year which will be capacity Building /infrastructural Development and the second phase of the project will start next year for Teachers/Grassroot courses. The third phase is in 2012 and for Grassroots Beach Volleyball and the final phase will in 2013 which will be FIVB Coaches course level (1). The deputy Director of Sports Alpha Koker said that the target audience is over 5,000 people (Primary and Secondary school Teachers, Grassroot Coaches, Children 10-14, young people 15-18 years) These target groups of the Sports Aid Development Programme (SADP) are school teachers, volunteers, sports administrators who will be able to integrate Volleyball in their curriculum and facilitators of development and propagation of Volleyball and Beach Volleyball in the Communities, District and regions.
Alpha said that the key objectives of the Sports Aid Development Programme is to promote District and Community participation, develop programmes at local level, promote Volleyball as a mass activity, to serve and satisfy the needs of the Local Councils and the sierra Leone Volleyball Association.
Also to obtain an effective and efficient participation from local Councils in Sports (Volleyball in particular) and to create Volleyball Development Centers and draw up new teaching programmes for Coaches, Referees and Administrators to improve local Technicians Alpha Koker stated that the project will however, be centered on the mass’ Participation and promote the game of Volleyball. Volleyball is definitely a sport which has something to offer to everyone.
And Sports Council intends to create the conditions under which each Region, District and Community, given its resources, will be able to express its potentials in competitions and derive the maximum benefit possible from the sports.
