17-year old in alleged murder

A 17-year old boy was yesterday arraigned before Magistrate Komba Kamanda of Court No. 2 in Freetown on one count charge of murder contrary to law.
According to the police charge sheet, it is alleged that the accused, on Friday 25th November 2011 at Fisher Street in Freetown, murdered Khalil Alieu Kamara.
Although no plea was taken, Prosecutor, ASP Dunia called on witness, Dr. Simeon Owizz Koroma to testify. Dr. Koroma identified himself as the Government Pathologist and explained some of his duties, which include teaching and training medical students, performing both hospital and medical autopsies and also conducts all exhumations in this country.
In his testimony, he recalled on the 29th November 2011 when he was at the Connaught Hospital mortuary when he received the remains of a 31-year old male police officer, Khalil Alim Kamara. On that day, he testified, he performed an autopsy on the deceased person and the body was later identified by the step father. At the end of the autopsy, he recalled, the findings were acquit shock due to stab wound of body back and ruptured left leg.
After the doctor’s testimony the accused person who was not represented by a lawyer was remanded in custody. The matter was adjourned to the 1st February, 2012.
