Thirteen year-old Jonathan Lansana of St. Patrick Secondary School Koidu committed suicide after a brief misunderstanding between he and his mother which was connected to the beating of his younger sister. Johnathan’s mother, Madam Finda Lansana, said that she rebuked Jonathan after he had heavily hit his younger sister. He later entered his room and hung himself.
Information from another source also revealed that Jonathan was a form one pupil and did not pass his annual examination which left bitterness in his heart. Many people speculated that could have been another course for his suicide.
His class teacher, Sylvanus Fallah, said that young Jonathan was a clever pupil and that his participation in class wasn’t bad. Mr. Fallah said Jonathan failed in his first term examination, which was a surprise to him as a teacher. He called on the parent to ascertain as to whether Jonathan was regularly studying at home. Jonathan was said to have grown interests in football and in Nigerian movies, but he maintained regularity and respectful to his teachers.
Jonathan’s parents are presently in police custody in Tankoro, helping the police in their investigation. The N.C.O. crime Tankoro police confirmed that the police would do everything humanly possible to unearth the root cause of the death of Jonathan Lansana.
In another incident, an eleven year-old boy attending Assemblies of God primary Samandu, also drank caustic soda because of his mother’s intervention in trying to stop him from beating his younger brother. Eleven-year old Tamba Fayah is presently admitted at the Koidu government hospital where he is responding to treatment.
