12 people, mostly students, have been detained without bail for loitering around the environment of Up gun Turn- table in the East end of Freetown, on Wednesday the 3rd June, 2009.
According to Sergeant 3032 Turay O. in charge of the remand center where the detainees were locked up, the loiterers were caught around the Up gun Community between the hours of 10:OO to 11:OO pm on Monday the 1st June, 2009 and were tentatively withheld at the Ross Road Police Division. He further mentioned that it has been stipulated by the authority responsible that whosoever is caught after 8: OO pm roaming aimlessly around specific vicinity will be arrested for loitering.
One of the detainees who identified himself as Abdul Koroma attending The Sierra Leone Muslim Congress Secondary School said, he went out to find food to eat when he took a break after studying, adding that he was not loitering since his house is just a stone throw to the area where he was caught.
The others also made similar statements suggesting their innocence regarding the allegation. However their detention is to last for three days before they could be released.
