11 pupils benefit from LGCI’s Scholarship

11 pupils from primary, nursery and reception at the Sybanclair Preparatory School have been awarded scholarships by an American-based organization; the Leaders of Godly Character- International. The scholarship provides tuition fees for them now in various classes. The ceremony took place at the school’s compound at 32 Upper Brook Street in Freetown, with parents of the beneficiaries and members of staff in attendance.
Speaking to Awoko, the representative of LGCI Mrs. Remi Taylor-Pearce said that they are functioning as a non-profit religious organization based in River Side California, adding that they have two instituted programmes which cover education and a leadership seminar and workshop in Sierra Leone and the USA. She maintained that this is not their first time rendering help to the school. They have been assisting in the area of providing reading materials and other assorted items necessary for a school going pupils for the past eight years. The award of the scholarship which she said, is the first time, came as a result when, during one of their visits, the proprietor told them that some children do not pay their fees on time. This, she said gave rise to humanitarian assistance given to those who were in that position.
Mrs. Taylor-Pearce stated that their helping hand is not only extended to Sybanclair Preparatory School but they are also assisting a school in Wellington and they are planning to extend it to some others in the near future. They have help in creating resource centres at the aforementioned schools to build the human capacity of pupils in the different schools.
The Proprietress of Sybanclair Preparatory School Madam Christiana Kenny said that she was impressed by the kind gesture considering the difficult times people are facing. He said that the scholarship was timely and appreciated by the entire management of the school. She stated that she hates sending children out of school for tuition fees, adding that the scholarship will go a long way in helping parents attend to other financial problems. She mentioned that the selection was done based on the form the information provided on the forms organization had sent to twenty- five children. The result came with eleven people benefiting from the scholarship. She reiterated that LGCI has assisted her school in different ways including the provision of reading materials for her pupils.
The chairman of Parents Teachers Association (PTA) Rev. Moses Wilson acknowledged the assistance and considered it as “God timely”.
He said that the parents are in full appreciation of the offer and expressed hope that the gesture will continue to be extended to those who are in dire need.
