1050 students matriculate at Eastern Polytechnic

About 1,050 students of the Eastern Polytechnic in Kenema city on Saturday 19th February 2011 matriculated as new students into the fold of the college.
The event is held annually at the Ahmed Tejan Kabbah hall to formally welcome the students and give them an opportunity to sign the college registrar.
The Chairman of the ceremony who also doubles as the Deputy Director of Education (DDE) East John Amara Swaray said the Ministry of Education places a great deal of importance on the occasion. He added that as the highest learning institution in the East, students of the college are expected to be role models by acting as ambassadors of the college.
The Resident Minister East William Juana Smith congratulated the Principal and staff of the Polytechnic for creating the enabling environment and nurturing the institution to the level of offering programmes that leads to the award of Degrees, diplomas and Certificates in various fields of study.
He assured all that government recognises and acknowledges the immense contribution to the development of middle level man power in this country and that their efforts will not go unrewarded.
He further stated that the institution is present in all the three Districts of the Eastern province, with the main campus in Kenema and others in Bunumbu, Kailahun and Woama, Kono Districts.
In his keynote address the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Njala University Bo Campus Professor .G. Martin Tamba Roberts described the day as a very important moment in the lives of the matriculates.
He said they are expected to be civilized in their approach, nice, honest, conscientious, mindful, considerate, tolerant, respectful and helpful towards, the college authorities, administrative and academic staff and colleagues.
