Amnesty International Sierra Leone, in collaboration with its German counterpart, has been able to raise funds for the family of the late editor of For de People newspaper, Harry Yansaneh.
The funds are to be utilized for the education of the late editor’s only son and wife.
Though Amnesty International Sierra Leone is not a service provider, the circumstance of the son of late Yansaneh warranted the support.
“I feel very proud and happy that in this case we have not only been advocating for justice for Harry Yansaneh but that we have been able to give out support to his family” said Brima A. Sheriff, director of Amnesty International Sierra Leone.
“I understand that Mrs. Sesay is studying at an institution. We hope that she will spend the money wisely on her own and her son’s education. We would greatly appreciate some sort of account. Please give her and the boy our best wishes” wrote Ortrun Poettering coordinating on behalf of AI Germany.
The money has been successfully transferred into the accounts of Mrs. Yansaneh in Freetown and she has confirmed this.
