The only female participant in this year’s RSLAF Skills at Arms competition, Lt. Boinah Moses said in an interview with Awoko that women can be better soldiers than some men.
She made this statement after demonstrating exemplary skill in weapons handling during the first day of the RSLAF’s Skills at Arms Competition held at the Benguema Firing Range in Waterloo.
Lt. Boinah Moses of the 4th Brigade from Makeni yesterday demonstrated an impressive performance in the live firing competition with a record of hitting 37 targets using 40 live round bullets from distances of 50m, 75m, and 100m.
“I knew I was going to do well as the only female participant because I am a record holder in my Brigade at Makeni where I got all 40 for 40.” Lt. Moses said.
She also stated that she was not in any way frightened by the hundreds of men she competed against.
“This is my first time to take part in such a competition since I joined the Military two years ago but I believe in myself and I know I will do it” she added.
“I know that there are dozens of female officers out there who are capable of doing the same but do not have the opportunity to take part. After seeing my performance I believe by the next competition they will come onboard so that we can challenge the men” Lt. B. Moses stated.
“I am calling on other women who are shying away from enrolling themselves into the Military to come onboard and together we can send a message that women too can do it” the Lieutenant appealed with a pretty smile.
