It is a Constitutional Rights for everyone to belong to whatever association he/she feels like joining without any form of harassment in Sierra Leone. I want to believe it is the same everywhere around the World. But it seems as if some people in some part in the Provincial part of this country are violating the Human and Constitutional Rights of people by forcing them to belong to certain groups without their wish.
In a follow up interview in relation to our previous publication two weeks ago, in a matter involving one Chernor Bangura, who is presently on the run to avoid being forcefully initiated by his father led secret society (Poroh Society) in a village called Makabarie in Port Loko District, in the Northern Region of Sierra Leone, Pa Saidu Kasseh, one of the leaders in the initiation process disclosed to this press that no matter how long it takes Chernor must complete the initiation process.
According to Pa Kasseh, for the mere fact that Chernor had been put into the Poroh Bush, where ever he go he must go through this process as his father Pa Joseph Chernor Bangura who is the present leader of the society had vowed to surrender all his male children to be part of the society to replace him when he passed away. Pa Kasseh added that they have previously faced with similar situation where the victim fled out of the country, upon his return to the country we succeeded in initiating him, so Chernor will not escape this.
Sidikie Yamba Conteh one of the guard at the Kantha where Chernor escaped reiterated that Chernor had brought so many suffering in his life as he and his colleague on duty the day Chernor escaped were under serious problem to catch Chernor or they will continue to work for the elders in the community for the rest of their lives. According to Sidikie they will go all out the catch Chernor in order to satisfy their elders and to accomplish their task of initiation.
Chernor’s father refused to comment on anything to this press in relation to Chernor missing as he accused the press of giving information to his son about their plans to capture him.
It as if this issue is becoming unbecoming as these people are desperate to complete the initiation process with Chernor who is against that. We hope officials in charge will do what they can to forbid such act in the country to ensure that everyone enjoys his/her fundamental human rights, especially the Human Rights Commission of Sierra Leone.
