After casting his vote at around 1pm on Saturday at polling station 5, station number 1201-1500 in Goderich, the incumbent and Presidential candidate of the All Peoples Congress (APC) party, President Ernest Bai Koroma said that he “will win in the first rounds”.
The President, fully clad in a white three piece gownembroidered with green and gold and spotting a matching white cap was welcomed by voters shouting ‘world best’ as he entered to cast his vote.
After voting, President Koroma said “Sierra Leoneans should be very proud that we have conducted ourselves in a very peaceful manner. The institutions running the elections have also endeavoured to be very professional. So far we are pleased with the process, pleased with the turnout of Sierra Leoneans we are also pleased that it has been a peaceful process on to this moment and I do hope that it would continue in a very peaceful and transparent manner.”
Questioned on how confident he was in winning the elections, President Koromasaid “I am so confident that I am going to win at the first ballot.” He stated that this election “is a referendum on my performance and I am sure I have performed and therefore I will come out in flying colours.”
Asked whether he will accept the results if he loses the elections, he said “We are in a democratic process, the democratic imperative is that when the people speak it must be respected.”
He appealed “to Sierra Leoneans to continue to respect the law for us to ensure that the process is completed and go out there peacefully and wait until a pronouncement is made by NEC.”
He said that that the presence of the International community and observers will give the elections a lot of credibility.
