The newly elected President of the Sierra Leone Boxing Association (SLBA), Eric Dura Sesay has stated that his being at the helm of the boxing fraternity is for development. Eric Dura Sesay was elected unopposed as President of the SLBA in last year’s Elective Congress of December 23rd.
He made this statement when a cross section of the SLBA executive paid a courtesy call on the President of the National Olympic Committee (NOC), Henry G. Moore yesterday Wednesday, 18th January 2012 at the NOC office, Howe Street, Freetown.
The new boxing President says he is happy with new job, noting that he is no stranger to sports as he has been President of the Basketball association.
“I made considerable changes in that discipline while I was President. It is that same dynamism and change that I intend to bring into boxing,” Mr. Sesay assured, adding that he intends doing ‘rigorous marketing of boxing at both national and international levels.
“Boxing had brought us glory. That glory seems to have lost. It is my determination to restore it during my tenure in office,” the new Boxing Prexy further assured.
The Boxing President went on to reveal his plans to decentralize boxing in the country and to organize local competitions for boxers across the country first, to identify young talents and second to keep them fit for international competitions.
He also assured of his efforts at providing adequate and appropriate facilities and equipment for the development of the sport.
He disclosed plans to stage the first ever local boxing competition that will see boxers in bouts for a newly introduced President Koroma trophy to be held in Makeni City immediately after the voter registration exercise.
