The Bo City Mayor Dr. Wusu Sannoh has said that armed robbers are terrorizing peaceful citizens in the Southern City of Bo and the Police do not seem to be capable of handling the menace, as properties worth millions of Leones have been carted way recently.
He said he was appalled by the recent armed robbery within the Township because of its gravity as it left victims with severe injuries, trauma and shock.
Dr. Sannoh also lamented the recent robbery at the Bo Government Hospital where armed robbers jumped on the collapsed hospital fence to enter the matron’s office and carted away valuable drugs and other medical equipments.
He said the drugs was meant for patients at the hospital and further disclosed that the robbery deprived the public from getting highly needed drugs at the hospital to treat illnesses.
The mayor also raised serious concern over the status of health care delivery and conditions of service for workers adding that the only Medical Doctor in the district could not cope with the numerous health problems in the district.
He appealed to the Ministry of Health and Sanitation to ensure the speedy construction of the Bo Government Hospital fence.
Mayor Sannoh also expressed disappointment and frustration over the incapability of the police to protect lives and properties in Bo.
The mayor said “Bo Town Council is planning to set up a force in Bo, called the Bo City Police which will be charged with the responsibility to maintain law and order within the Bo Township and also help to implement the City Ordinances,”
He also said that the Bo City Police will be trained and equipped like the Freetown Metropolitan Police and the officers in Bo will be working with the Sierra Leone Police to curb crimes so that rampant armed robberies will be minimized in Bo to give residents relief.
The mayor appealed to the Government to support the Bo Town Council with adequate funds and technical expertise to maintain law and order and to also undertake developmental projects that will directly benefit the ordinary people
