The recent political campaign slogan by the All Peoples Congress (APC), party supporters to vote ‘4 for 4’, has been described as “undemocratic.”
This assertion was made by United Democratic Movement (UDM) councillor candidate, Jacob Sorie Kanu, for Ward 90 in Constituency 29.
The slogan means that their supporters should vote the party for all four seats from Presidential, Parliamentary, Chairman or Mayor and councillors, in tomorrow’s General election slated for 17th November 2012.
The UDM candidate made this statement during their party’s last campaign date in Bombali district.
Kanu while addressing supporters and listeners of Sierra Leone Broadcasting Corporation (SLBC) in Makeni, told his supporters and listeners, that the idea the incumbent party is presently preaching to the public is not good in any democratic nation.
Jacob Sorie Kanu said the message that potential voters should vote for all APC candidates is bad and undemocratic.
He said the present council in Makeni city has failed the people woefully with little or nothing absolutely to write home about, which according to him was all the more reason why the party replaced almost everybody.
The UDM candidate said, the pronouncement by their leader to support the presidency of President Koroma does not limit them from contesting in the race, noting that, the party is contesting all the other three positions and called on voters to read between the lines and make a very meaningful decision that will take their ward, constituency, city and district forward.
A Civil Society Activist Abdulai Kabia in an exclusive interview with Awoko on the issue of ‘4 for 4’ stated that, while they were busy sensitizing locals on how to vote, they realised that, most people had disappointed them.
He said the people’s knowledge about ‘4 for 4’ was that, they had been told to vote for the first 4 people in the first ballot paper, second four in the second ballot paper till the last ballot paper.
He however said that, ‘slangs’ are not helpful in an electioneering process,” he cautioned.
Madam Adama Sesay, a businesswoman along Church Street market in Makeni, while explaining her knowledge of ‘4 for 4’ said that, they were told to vote for only four people in the entire electioneering process.
She noted that, most of them have not set their eyes on a single ballot paper sample to use as a demonstration but however concluded that, all she knew was to vote for four people that are, President, Parliamentarian, a Mayor and a councillor.
