A member of the ‘Cricket for Change’ Mickey Thompson has disclosed to Awoko Sports that government should give support to disabled sport in the Country.
Hence ‘Cricket for Change’ has recently launched its new disability cricket program. ‘Hit the Top’ is the first disability cricket program in the Country which makes provision for young people with disabilities.
This would encourage people with disabilities to be hopeful as all is not lost.
He disclosed that they have traveled far and wide but that Sierra Leone is the best place he has visited; as every one has a smiling face and also appreciate want they have.
He mentioned that he likes teaching children and that children in Sierra Leone are very positive and talented.
He said that people in England have a negative perception about Sierra Leoneans, considering all that transpired during the war years. He intimated that when he gets back to England he would allay their fears and make it known that Sierra Leone is a beautiful place.
Mickey Thompson stressed that they were able to come to Sierra Leone through their cooperation with David Turner of ‘Right to Play’, who decided that it would be prudent to link ‘Cricket for Change’ with ‘Right to Play’.
He revealed that they would also be working with the Cricket Association; and appealed to Coaches to continue the training of the disabled. He promised to invite some of them to England, if funds are available.
