Residents of Government Wharf stormed Awoko’s office yesterday alleging that they were being harassed by supporters of the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP).
They claimed that this harassment was being meted out on them because the chairman of the Government Wharf community, Foday, was a staunch supporter of the All People’s Congress (APC).
A disheveled youth, who identified himself as Peelad Yooxe, threatened: “we will go on the rampage if this pestering continues.”
He said on Monday they tried to lodge complaints at the Central Police Station but that the “SLPP thugs prevented us by pelting stones at us even sending the police running”.
Peelad claimed that all through the night before yesterday’s they had been pelted with stones from the SLPP party office, which is overlooking their community.
“We would have retaliated with stones also but we did not want to destroy the glass windows of various government buildings including the new Maritime building,” said Peelad.
He also claimed that these thugs had been mounting checkpoints in front of the SLPP party office, and harassing them as they commuted to their various chores.
The self-styled spokesman said they even stabbed one Emmanuel Jones living in their community, and that these “thugs” had also threatened that as long as Government Wharf was for APC they would get no peace
