The Sierra Leone Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture will be organizing its annual traditional National/International Trade Fair and Exhibition that will take place at the Miatta Conference centre between the 20th and 30th April, 2009.
Speaking to press men on Tuesday 14th April the, 1st Vice president of the Sierra Leone chamber of commerc, Mr.Mohamed Babatunde Cole said that this Trade Fair will last for ten days and it will attract both national and international participants.
Mr. Cole further disclosed that they have been assured by the Ghana High Commission in Sierra Leone that Association of Ghana Industry (AGI) will participate fully in this year’s Exhibition.
They are also expecting the participation of the Chinese Chamber of Commerce and the Sierra Leone National Farmers Association where various agricultural products will be exhibited to show the country’s agricultural potentials.
VP-1 of the chamber intimated press men that the theme for this year’s exhibition is:”Support the private sector growth by encouraging investment “and the celebration will coincide with Sierra Leone’s 48th independent day celebration.
He stated that the chamber is aware of the need to encourage both local and foreign investment in the country to promote private sector development which will result in job creation and an improvement in the citizen’s standard of living.
Mr. Cole went on to explain that the Trade Fair will help to generate more tax and revenues for Government which can be used to provide social services such as schools, health care facilities and also develop infrastructures that the private sector needs for growth.
It is the expectation of the chamber that with the Trade Fair participants would realize their potentials and see opportunities available in the country for economic growth. ”During this year’s Trade Fair a special stand will be set up where the various locally manufactured products especially clothing and textile would be displayed” he further mentioned.
The 2nd Vice president of the chamber Mrs. Gladys Strasser-King confirmed that over fifty people have registered and have been given locations for exhibition during the all important Trade Fair.
Mr.Unisa Alim Sesay gave the assurance that they have almost concluded arrangement with the Ministry of Works for water supply to be made available at the entire Yuoyi building throughout the ten days exhibition.
