The Chief Whip of Parliament Hon. Ibrahim Bundu has said in an interview with Awoko that the outburst by the Lands Minister that certain MPs were allegedly involved in illegal Lands deal was not going to disturb Parliament.
Hon. Bundu said it was Parliament that requested the Lands minister after making such allegations against certain MPs from the Western Area. He said they took great exception to that stating that their integrity was at stake but since the Lands minister has furnished Parliament with the names and documents, they were going to go through the procedures.
The Chief Whip reminded that what the minister said and presented were not at this stage going to be accepted as factual but to be taken as an allegation that should be probed in to.
He also stated that the Majority Leader was vocal in calling for an investigation and calling for the statement of the minister to be substantiated. Asked what action Parliament would take should the documents presented by the Lands minister prove to be true, he answered that he was not sure he was going to be a member of the investigating committee but said should he be part of it, it was going to be parliaments’ decision.
“That was why we insisted for the documents to be laid on the table so that we will examine it carefully and properly then we will also read the report to the public. If anybody is found guilty, nobody is above the law here including the President. If an allegation is made against the President, there are ways and means to go about it. If those names are found guilty, the due process will take place” the chief whip stated.
He however declined to specifically name the type of penalty, whether they will be loosing their seats, suspended or to face the Anti- Corruption Commission.
