In a press conference held on Friday at the All People’s Congress (APC) head office, the party’s Secretary General, Victor Bockarie Foh, emphatically stated that “not even 10 Maada Bio’s can challenge President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma at the polls come 2012.
He added that the election of Maada Bio as a flag -bearer is not a surprise to many people who already knew that there was no way a non-south-easterner would be given the leadership of the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP).
Foh noted that “the choice of the SLPP is an insult to our collective conscience as a nation,” adding that the party has not come up with any sensible choice for their Presidency.
“The fact that highly- educated and well-known northerners who had served Sierra Leone in high positions both within and without Sierra Leone could not be considered for any serious position, is another indication that the SLPP has no room for non-south-easterners”, he stated.
The APC party Scribe further stated that the irony that Sierra Leoneans like Dr Kadie Sesay, Alpha Wurie, Momodu Koroma, Alpha Timbo and others could not even clinch votes that are respectable, is again another indication that northerners within the SLPP are not regarded as part of the inner core of that party.
Mr. Victor Foh maintained that Osman Boi- Kamara who in his entire lifetime had never attended a political party convention but decided to vie for the leadership of the SLPP, has learnt his lesson, as it is now very clear that “he should have known that he was too much of an outsider to even attempt to vie for the sacred position of the leadership of the SLPP”.
The Secretary General reiterated that the deliberate fielding in of south-eastern candidates to create a situation of south-eastern dominance of the SLPP does not auger well for national cohesion, peace, and concord.
He noted that Osman Boi-Kamara who came second in the leadership contest deserves no applause; because “his second position votes scored can only be explained by the fact that during the campaign for the leadership of the SLPP, he spent resources twice more than what all other candidates put together spent.”
The public, he said, will remember that Maada Bio has not been put to the test of running a civilian democratic system and his lack of experience to run a political structure using democratic institutions, makes him unsuitable to administer Sierra Leone at a time when democracy is the core of State Governance.
Victor Foh went on: “the citizens of Sierra Leone are trying to put the terrible past behind them and they cannot be fooled anymore”.
The APC will continue to remain peaceful and to cooperate with other organs of State including the SLPP, but as a governing party with a progressive agenda, the party has a solemn responsibility to inform both the citizenry and the whole world that Sierra Leone would not be allowed to be brought down again.
He concluded that President Koroma will continue to pursue the Agenda for Change and will continue to stand by his reformative programmes, and will continue to maintain his democratic disposition and the sustenance of human rights.
