Former secretary general of the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP), Dr Prince Harding, has told Awoko in an exclusive interview that Jacob Jusu Saffa alias “JJ Blood”, the current SLPP secretary general, is presiding over the disintegration of the party.
Prince Harding, who resigned as minister of Transport and Communication in the SLPP government few months before the party lost the general elections, averred that, “until JJ Blood leaves the hierarchy of the SLPP I don’t see any future for that party.”
Dr Harding, who pointed to his good records in the SLPP as winning two presidential elections and bringing the popularity of the party to 70%, said he continued to hold membership in the party.
Political pundits are of the opinion that he has fallen out with the hierarchy of the SLPP party even after he lost his re-election as party secretary general.
However the erstwhile politician, who is now taking angry lashes from his party members and stalwarts for frolicking with the All People’s Congress (APC) as he recently joined President Koroma’s entourage to Burkina Faso, said he believed this country should move away from partisan politics.
Dr Harding said, “I had had time to probe the mindset of the president on a one on one basis and I found out that he has a pure heart, a God fearing person, and above all he loves this country.”
“Who would not want to collaborate with the president?” Harding asked.
Taking a jibe on JJ Blood, Prince Harding said he (JJ Blood) should have resigned the day the results were announced, adding that “JJ Saffa thinks he is the SLPP which is not only an aberration but is part of his undoing of the party.”
The former SLPP secretary general said JJ Blood should be taking instructions from the National Executive Council of the party before making any public policy statements.
He said he saw this period as a time for reflection and for them to do a thorough post mortem and come out with credible recommendations for the party to enable it re-invent itself as a government in waiting.
“I am collaborating with the president particularly, because I believe in his enlightened leadership to take this country to where it should be,” Dr Harding ended his masterstroke.
