The Mayor of the Freetown City Council, Herbert George Williams said that it was a bad day for Freetown City FC. He made the statement when addressing the players after the match they lost to Diamond Stars of Kono by three goals to one (3-1) on Saturday in the on going Africell Sponsor premier league.
He also stated that they should put the defeat behind them and prepare for the remaining matches which they hope to win and appeal to the technical team not to be discourage, as leaders you have to br courageous when things are not good.
He stated that Medo who was the captain for the team did not have bad intention to miss the penalty but at the end he took the penalty and missed it and the other two goals were defensive blunders as it is all part of the game.
The win for Diamond Stars has now placed them among the first five with 31 points to their credit, the coach of Diamond Stars Mohamed Bundu said the winning means a lot to them as this was their main aim to win the match and secure all the maximum points to be amongst the first four at the end of the league season.
Coach Bundu said that they were able to win the match because they played compact football which is their usually style of playing and they have studied the style of their opponent.
He appeal to companies and individuals to come on board to support the team as they are going through some financial constraint.
In the other match played on Friday at the Kenema Town playing field, Kambui Eagles came very strong to defeat the defending champions East End Lions by a lone goal. This particular defeat has affected East End Lions chances of winning the championship for the second consecutive time.
East End Lions is the third big team in the premier league to suffer at the hands of Kambui Eagles who standard of play in the second round improved greatly.
