The minister of Health and Sanitation, Soccoh Kabia, has said he is not in the ministry to enrich himself but is concerned for the state of health in the country.
Addressing journalists at his office, Mr Kabia noted that as a citizen and minister of this country he had some obligations which he was bound to perform and that he had to take the health of people seriously.
The health minister maintained that he studied as a private physician in the United States of America (USA) and that he was appointed minister because of his expertise and the love he had for his country.
Mr Kabia pointed out that, “I am not here to raise wealth. If it is for money I would have stayed in the USA or engaged in some other way to get money.”
He disclosed that he joined the People’s Movement for Democratic Change (PMDC) because of the positive message it was carrying.
“I believe in press freedom but journalists should cross check their facts before publishing. My office is always open to journalists,” he noted.
The health minister disclosed that it was true that officials from Emzor Pharmaceuticals Company submitted the highest bid for producing drugs in the country, but maintained that a technical team which looked at the bids made commendations, adding that he could not influence the bidding process.
