Katherine Harding of Charlotte Village last Saturday won the Headman election to become the new Headwoman of the village after defeating Mr. Showers.
In an interview with her, she said she was very happy to have won the election and she is determined to continue to uplift the village for the good of them all.
Asked why she was voted in office by her village mates, she said it is because she is a resident of the village and has contributed a lot to the development of the village as she said she was very instrumental in the new bridge built on the road to the waterfall.
Talking about her challenge, she said she wants to unite the villagers and work with the former Headwoman if she is ready to work with her. “The village belongs to all of us and we need to work as a team to improve the environment and make it conducive for all of us”, she said.
Katherine Harding said she is going to start where the former headwoman left off and she will not condone any misappropriation from any quarters as she is ready to develop the village particularly now that the Chinese have started building the Hydro and the road construction too will soon start by the Chinese.
When asked about the land sale that is going on in Mountain villages, she said she will not be party to that and will frown at anyone who will want to destroy their village.
She said every land sale should be sanctioned by the Ministry of Lands before she will put pen to paper. “We want our village to be the best and we will not condone anyone who is indiscipline and causing problems for other members of the village”, she said.
Katherine Harding it could be recalled was appointed by the Member of Parliament Raymond Jones and Councilor Margaret Kargbo to act illegally when the term of office of the previous Headwoman expired.
She was rebuffed by the Rural District Council and there was a fracas between the two which saw them going to court.
Now that she has been elected by the village people she is now the democratically elected head and has pledged she will serve the people to the fullest of her ability.
