The Regional crime officer East Samuel Sanie Sesay has told the press in Kenema city that the crime rate has drastically reduced in the region. The crime officer disclosed the police institution is intelligence driven and community led. This he said is a special means for their recent gains recorded against drug traffickers at the Bandama checkpoint on the outskirts of Kenema city and other criminal activities that threaten the security of the state. The Regional crime officer thanked the Africell mobile company for supplying them with phones through which the public can now call police attention when they are in distress or needed immediately. On the question of Arms proliferation in the region Sanie Sesay blamed the porous border points of the region through which illegal immigrants from neighboring countries like Guinea and Liberia enter the country.
The head of the police media unit at the Kenema police division also thanked Africell for what he referred to as timely intervention to bridge the communication gap between the community and the police. Prince Kamara hoped the gesture will compliment the effort of the Sierra Leone Police in the Eastern region to reduce crime rate. A Journalist in Kenema Fayia Amara of Standard Times called on the police to increase both day and night patrols on the outskirts of the city where he said criminals are likely to use in their absence. He said criminals used such areas at night to wreck havoc on peaceful citizens. Fayia Amara called on other phone cells companies to emulate the good example of Africell Sierra Leone.
