The national coach of weightlifting in Sierra Leone, Sonny Johnson, has told Awoko sports that they need help if they are to take part in the competition in South Africa slated for May 10-16.
He mentioned that to participate in such a competition business houses, companies, and the government must come on board to assist financially if they were to achieve their goals.
Coach Sonny Johnson said the South African Weightlifting Federation had written to the Weightlifting Association of Sierra Leone to partake in the 19th Men’s and 8th Women’s Weightlifting Championships that would be held in Strand, South Africa.

The association wasted no time to organize the first trial at the weightlifting gym at the National Stadium.
He noted that after the trials Abdul Karim had a body weight of 72.9kg, and that he made a snatch best lift of 85 kg and a best lift of 105 with a grand total of 190kg.
