The President of the Sierra Leone Handball Association, Dr Patrick Coker has said that his association did not get the support they needed, but the players did their best without any strings attached.
He mentioned that, if other sporting associations maintain such spirit there would be great difference in sports in the country.
He pointed out that sports do not attract much funds at the moment but things might change with time. He also encouraged athletes of Sierra Leone to improve on their performance to gain more support in the long run.
He maintained that in their first international outing to Nigeria they were in the 4th position out of five countries that took part in the competition; noting that the players have some form of exposure to build on.
He noted that the team was expected to participate in another competition in Morocco, but they have decided to call it off as they wanted to undergo some form of training.
He disclosed that they do not want to make the trip simply for the sake of traveling, but to go and compete. Hence the executive has decided to call off the trip simply because they want to engage in intensive training.
He concluded that, the Sierra Leone Handball Team would engage their Guinean counterpart in a friendly match which is expected to be played in December this year, to boost the confidence of the Sierra Leone Team.
