The Administrative Secretary of the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) Abubakarr Kabba has disclosed to Awoko Sports that they are now set for the congress which has been slated for this weekend.
He went on that they cancelled the congress in the first stage which should have been last month but they are working very hard this time around to make sure that the elective congress takes place as scheduled for this weekend in Freetown at the Miatta conference hall.
Abubakarr mentioned that when the congress was cancelled, some of the delegates condemned the executive and the secretariat and since then a lot of things have happened.
This time around they do not want the delegates to cast blame on any side and that is why they are doing their best.
He went further that the meeting with some of the delegates who came from all over the country for the congress that was cancelled by Alhaji Unisa Alim Sesay because of the provision of documentation at congress is a statutory obligation on the executive committee of the football association.
He went further that if they go to congress without documentation as other delegates want it to happen is a breach of the constitution which means that the executive is not able to account for their stewardship.
He mentioned that apart from talking about the audited account for congress you are also supposed to give the minutes of the meetings of the last congress and also activity report as football is all about activities, how many games you played as well as international matches for both our national teams and our local clubs.
Also the instructor courses for coaches, referees administration you have to give account to the members of congress for the past four years.
He said to take all this in to consideration that is why the executive decided to cancel it for the weekend so that all documents that are necessary to be presented for congress to the delegates before congress will be presented so that they will get themselves prepared for the congress by asking questions when the need arises.
He went further that if you give them the documents the very day for congress or two days before congress without studying the documents properly congress is going to be boring and even by that time some delegates will not know what discussion is going on and will not make any input into the congress.
He said that is the reason why the documents have been given to the delegates about a week to the congress which will give them more time to go through all the documents before congress so that they will have time to ask as many questions as possible to the executive committee members.
That was the reason why the congress was cancelled for another date and we are now prepared
When asked about the feeling of the secretariat when the last congress was postponed, he replied that they did not feel very happy and they will not blame the delegates because they came as they said during the meeting they were not informed, and they went further to say they do not have trust in the sitting executive.
As they have postponed it once and twice and they said they want to come and make their view that they want the congress to be held on the date slated.
He went further that there was also bitter arguments between delegates about the five hundred thousand Leones which was given to the regional heads to inform them that the congress has been cancelled.
He noted that all modalities have been put in place for the congress this weekend and it will be very wrong to come back and say that congress is not going to take place this weekend – it will be a big blow and a big slap to the executive and the secretariat which is responsible for putting the documentation together.
That is why he said they are doing everything possible to make sure that it holds this weekend as all the documentation have now been given out to the delegates.
