Addressing staff and the outgoing minister of labour and social security Alpha Timbo, the incoming minister Minkailu Mansaray said he had not come to the ministry to suppress workers.
The incoming minister, who was speaking at a handing over ceremony yesterday at the ministry’s conference room, said he was highly honoured to be elected as the minister of employment and social security.
He added that what “we are signifying now is that Sierra Leone is poised for a positive change”, adding that the outgoing minister had played a great role in achieving this change.
Mr Minkailu Mansaray noted that he had implicit confidence in his workers…. “I urged you all to work with me if I am to achieve my desired goals in this ministry,” he said.
The incoming minister maintained that, “if we are to achieve this constructive change in the country we must prepare to work industriously”.
He stressed that he had come to work in the ministry as one family and would work with them in symbiotic relationship.
Mr Mansaray averred that he would strengthen the foundations that the outgoing minister had made and would work in line with their All People’s Congress (APC) manifesto.
The outgoing minister, Alpha Timbo, said he was appointed minister on 29 October 1999 under the former government of President Kabbah.
“Today (yesterday) made me 8yrs and ten months serving as minister,” he noted adding that he was highly gratified as a result of the collective effort in that ministry.
Mr Timbo maintained that he also created some jobs for the youth internationally and designed overseas programmes for the youth to secure employment
Outgoing Alpha Timbo pointed out that the ministry of employment and social security was a very important ministry in the country.
Highlighting some of the achievements he made, the outgoing minister said his first priority in office was the establishment of the industrial court.
Mr Timbo noted that his other priority was the areas of promoting employment; opening of the information service center and the opening of the National social security and Insurance Trust (NASSIT).
In his handing over note the outgoing minister gave the current updates of the ministry, status report of the ministry, inventory of assets, status report of NASSIT and the social safety net.
