The father of the late Halimatu Sheriff Kamara, who died on Monday 22nd October at the Kenema Government Hospital, Mr Julius Kamara, has questioned the death of her daughter stating that, “we the parents suspect foul play… it is a conspiracy.”
Addressing media practitioners, members of Civil Society organizations and human rights groups, Mr Kamara said, “I’m aware of the fact that an investigation is being conducted by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID).”
Mr Kamara explained that he did not intend to jeopardize the investigation by organizing the press conference, adding that he was prompted to do so “because I have heard statements being made by members of the Sierra Leone Police Force and even the pathologist to the public.”
“I strongly believe”, he maintained, that “I should be given the chance to be able to come to the public and give my own opinion as to what actually happened.”
Mr Kamara, who seemed to be depressed, explained that Alima informed him that she was going to spend the weekend with her aunt who is residing at Wilberforce.
The deceased’s father disclosed that, “we suspect that a group of very unscrupulous people tricked her [Alima] from her home at Spur Loop and subdued her to incredible treatments at a Kenema guest house, unsuspecting late Alima struggled with the assailants(s) before she was overpowered, and immediately went into coma; a situation she never recovered from until her death.”
In an attempt to cover this conspiracy, Mr Kamara said, “she was brought to the Kenema lorry park at midnight of October 22 [where she was discovered unconscious.]”
Mr Kamara raised several questions, which he begged for answers.
Some of the questions he asked were: “since the parents did not report Amuday Basma in this matter, what prompted the police in Kenema to arrest and detain Amuday as a possible murder suspect …?”
He also asked, “what does the public in Kenema think about pimps links to a Lebanese sex psychopath who is known to be in the habit of sexually molesting young Sierra Leonean girls? Mr Kamara again asked: “has Victoria Jarret [friend of the deceased- who allegedly took her to Kenema] no moral or legal obligation to have informed the parents of late Halimatu at her critical time.”
Late Halimatu’s father also questioned: “why a press-briefing was held on the result of the post-mortem without intimating the parents and even went ahead to release the suspects?”
